history

In 1526 the Duchy of Mazovia fell to the Kingdom of Poland , and Janowo attracted more and more attention with an annual market and three fairs a year. Sigismund I exempted the now third largest city in the Ciechanów region from tax payments for four years. In 1862 Janowo had 1616 inhabitants.
After a checkered history and frequent changes in membership of the administrations , Janowo is now a village in the powiat Nidzicki, until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. In 2011 Janowo counted 1040 inhabitants as the official seat of Gmina Janowo.
