Jason Nicholas Miller (born December 24, 1980 in Atlanta ; nickname Mayhem ) is a former American mixed martial arts fighter and presenter . He mainly used Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai techniques. Miller trained at Team Quest in Temecula and had trained intensively with Randy Couture , Marc Laimon and Quinton Jackson , with whom he grew up. He regularly co-hosts "Mayhem Mondays" on the Jason Ellis Show on Sirius Satellite Radio .

Miller played fights at Strikeforce , Pride's successor Dream and two fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship . As of March 17, 2010, his competition statistics included 23 wins and seven losses.

Jason Miller hosted the reality TV show Bully Beatdown , which ran in three seasons from March 2009 to January 2012 on MTV . In the show, he let candidates who were presented as bullys (bullys) compete in the ring against professional MMA fighters.

Early life

Jason Miller was born on December 24, 1980 in a military hospital. Both parents were in the military, and so the family spent most of their youth traveling around the United States. The family lived in council houses at army bases, the longest in Fort Bragg , North Carolina. As a child he practiced traditional martial arts at times and his father, an 82nd Airborne paratrooper, was a former amateur boxer. Miller attributed much of his combat experience in interviews to street fights and brawls with his father. Jason Miller took an interest in mixed martial arts at the age of 16 when he watched videotapes from Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pride and Vale Tudo Brazil. He began his training after putting on a hockey chest protector and Tae-Kwon-Do gloves and losing to a smaller, weaker friend in a stranglehold while sparring . He was kicked out of school for a fight and had to move to a rural town that had an early mixed martial arts school for his high school senior year. That year he began to train seriously and started wrestling again, which he had previously given up. He missed his prom and instead went on a date with a girl to see his first professional MMA fight on Virginia Beach , Virginia in April 1999.

After leaving home, he began traveling around the country pursuing his MMA career. To finance his lifestyle, he fought in small events across the country and taught mixed martial arts. He was famous for living in a minibus outside the HB Ultimate Training Center in Huntington Beach, California. He also lived for rent in various gyms and rooms when he traveled to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Los Angeles to improve his fighting techniques.

Mixed martial arts career

Mayhem has fought in a variety of organizations including ICON Sport , Ultimate Fighting Championship , DREAM and Strikeforce . In his career he defeated opponents such as Falaniko Vitale , Ronald Jhun , Egan Inoue , Denis Kang , Kala Hose , Toby Imada and Robbie Lawler .

A riot broke out after the fight against Ronald Jhun and Miller was hit on the back of the head by Mark Moreno . This set the stage for a Grudge Match, and Miller dominated Moreno, defeating him with an arm lever at the end of the first round and making the famous Shaka sign before defeating him. Mayhem became most famous through a bloody fight with Canadian superstar Georges St. Pierre at UFC 52 . He lost by a unanimous decision.

On September 2, 2006, Mayhem won the Icon Sports Middleweight Title from "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler by Arm Triangle in the third round. In December of that year, Mayhem lost his first title defense in a fight in which he was considered a favorite against Frank Trigg by TKO in the second round. On October 5, 2006, Miller attended Anything Goes , a professional wrestling event run by Action Zone Wrestling.

Mayhem is currently fighting for the Japanese MMA event DREAM , where he was part of the 2008 Middleweight Grand Prix. He was defeated by Ronaldo de Souza at DREAM.4 in the semi-finals of the tournament. Miller lost to "Jacare" by a unanimous decision in a fight that most of the time looked like a surrender would end it.

The two battled again, but this time for the dream middleweight belt (a title that has been vacant since Gegard Mousasi moved to the light heavyweight division). The fight ended with a frustrating breakup, Miller landed a soccer kick on Jacare's forehead. The kick opened a large wound on Jacaré's head that caused the doctors to stop the fight. Soccer kicks are not allowed in Dream, so the fight was stopped because the kick was not intentional. Both fighters agreed to face each other again at an event in September 2009. The future of this rematch became uncertain when Souza later signed a deal with Strikeforce . Miller fought in Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers versus Jake Shields. The fight was for the Strikeforce middleweight title as Cung Le stepped down as champion to pursue his acting career.

Ultimately, Miller lost the fight for the Strikeforce middleweight title by a unanimous decision against Jake Shields . Although unable to withstand Jake Shields throws, he also scored a few throws late in the first round, and came the next to end the fight when he put Shields into a body triangle in the last 10 seconds of round three. The task ended by the end of the third round.

Miller met Tim Stout at Strikeforce: Nashville on April 17, 2010 and won the fight through TKO in the first round.

Miller was then scheduled to face Robbie Lawler on June 16, 2010 at Strikeforce: Los Angeles , but he was off the map following his actions at Strikeforce: Nashville, where he faced Jake Shields with a rematch after Shields beat UFC veteran Dan Henderson away.

There was suspicion that Miller would fight Nick Diaz in October , but the fight never materialized. Instead, “Mayhem” will play against Kazushi Sakuraba on September 25th at Dream.16 .

On April 22, 2011, it was announced that Miller was leaving Strikeforce and will now fight again in the UFC. His first opponent was Aaron Simpson, whom he met on July 2, 2011 as part of the UFC 132 event. The fight had to be canceled because of Miller’s participation in "The Ultimate Fighter". For the first time in the history of "The Ultimate Fighter", the two coaches were supposed to compete against each other in the final on December 3, 2011. Miller lost this fight by TKO in round 3 after 3:33 minutes when referee Steve Mazzagatti stopped the fight.

After losing to CB Dollaway in the Ultimate Fighting Championship 146, UFC President Dana White announced the next day that Miller's career with the UFC was over. On May 28, 2012, Miller resigned from professional MMA sports.

Strikeforce: -Nashville brawl

During the post-combat interview after Jake Shields ' victory over Dan Henderson , Miller somehow got into the cage and interrupted Shields by asking, "Where's my rematch buddy?" After both Gilbert Melendez and Shields Miller pushed away, Nick Diaz struck and started a brawl. Members of the Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu camp, which includes members such as Melendez, Diaz, and Nate Diaz , attacked Miller while he was being held back by members of Diaz's camp. The fight was then called off by referees, members of Dan Henderson's Corner, and security. Miller is now under review, and perhaps suspended, by Strikeforce and the Tennessee State Athletic Commission. Strikeforce has already pulled him out of a planned fight with Robbie Lawler and says they will honor whatever decision the commission makes.
