Jens Raschke
Jens Raschke (born 1970 in Darmstadt ) is a German children's theater maker ( playwright , dramaturge , theater director , festival curator) and author.
Life
Raschke grew up in and near Heidelberg . He studied Scandinavian Studies and History in Frankfurt am Main and Kiel . He then worked for several years as a dramaturge, including at the Theater Kiel , the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich and the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Since 1999 he has been the organizer and DJ of the Kiel seat disco. The sound researcher Raschke published the most interesting facts from his record collection of bizarre sound carriers from worldwide music history in the non-fiction book Disco Extravaganza. A journey into the wonderland of strange sounds , published in 2007 by Ventil Verlag . Together with Gil Mehmert he wrote a stage version of Woody Allen's film " Broadway Danny Rose ", which came out in 2000.
From 2003 he took on management positions at the international monodrama festival Thespis in Kiel and worked a. a. as a freelance cultural critic for the Kieler Nachrichten . Between 2007 and 2013 Raschke worked regularly as a play author, public relations worker and in-house director of the Theater im Werftpark, the children's and youth theater at the Kiel Theater . From the 2007/2008 season he brought out numerous of his own pieces and productions of other pieces.
With Einstein set sail , he created a dialogue piece about an unusual friendship between men, based on a true biographical story that connected Albert Einstein with Kiel. The youth play ran very successfully for several years in the Werftpark theater, then in 2017 it was reissued by the independent theater “DeichArt”, also in Kiel.
His greatest success as a playwright to date - Do fish sleep? - was translated into several languages, won the Mülheimer KinderStückePreis 2012 and was also implemented as a radio play and was awarded the 2014 MDR Children's Radio Play Prize .
His piece Was das Rhino saw when it looked at the other side of the fence , which won the German Children's Theater Prize and the Dutch-German Children's and Youth Dramatist Prize in 2014 , dares to examine the tyranny of the Nazi era in a form accessible to children. There was a zoo in Buchenwald , right in front of the concentration camp fence . Together with the animals, the child spectators look over the fence.
For the Theater Kiel he wrote the piece Hamsterblut , which traces the phenomena of empathy and was premiered in 2017.
Jens Raschke lives and works in Kiel .
