Jiří Štajner [ ˈjir̝iː ˈʃtajnɛr ] (born May 27, 1976 in Benešov ) is a Czech football player .

Club career

Jiří Štajner started playing football at TJ Senohraby . He came to Slovan Liberec in 2001 via Slavia Prague , SK České Budějovice , FK Louňovice and FC MUS Most .

In mid-2002, the Bundesliga promoted Hannover signed 96 Štajner. The Czech was considered a dream player by Hanover coach Ralf Rangnick . Initially, Štajner had difficulties finding his way in the Bundesliga , but in the second half of the 2002/03 season he developed more and more to a key player. On matchday 33 in May 2003 he scored the 2-2 equalizer in stoppage time in the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach and thus secured Hannover relegation in the first season after 13 years of absence from the Bundesliga.

In May 2009, Štajner extended his contract with Hannover 96 by another two years until 2011. At the end of the 2009/10 season , his contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

On June 14, 2010 Štajner signed a one-year contract with an option for another year with his former club Slovan Liberec. On October 9, 2010, a farewell game Slovan Liberec and Hannover 96 was played. Štajner scored twice for Liberec and scored one goal for Hanover. After his return to FC Slovan Liberec, Štajner became a regular player and scored nine goals in 29 league games in the 2010/11 season. He finished 13th in the Gambrinus League's top scorer list. In the 2011/12 season he contributed to winning the championship with 15 goals and ten assists.

On July 1, 2013, Štajner moved to FK Mladá Boleslav on a free transfer . Here he made ten games in the 2013/14 season and scored three goals. In the summer break of 2014 he went to the upper division club FC Oberlausitz Neugersdorf , where he terminated his contract in April 2015 due to health problems.

National team

Jiří Štajner played 37 caps for the Czech Republic in his career , scoring four goals. After he was temporarily no longer considered, he earned a place in the Czech World Cup squad again for the 2006 World Cup in what was probably the best part of his career as a footballer so far, the 2005/06 season . In 2009, Štajner was reappointed to the national team. He played his last international match against Ireland in February 2012.
