John G. Hutchinson

John Guiher Hutchinson (born February 4, 1935 in Charleston , West Virginia ) is a former American politician . Between 1980 and 1981 he represented the third electoral district of the state of West Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Hutchinson attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1956 the West Virginia University in Morgantown . Between 1956 and 1958 he served as a first lieutenant in the US Air Force . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

Between 1967 and 1971 Hutchinson served as treasurer of the city of Charleston, of which he was mayor from 1971 to 1980. After the death of longtime Congressman John M. Slack , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the necessary by-election in the third district of West Virginia . There, between June 30, 1980 and January 3, 1981, he ended the legislative period of his predecessor. In the regular congressional elections of 1980, Hutchinson was defeated by Republican Mick Staton .

After his brief tenure in Congress ended, Hutchinson entered the private sector. He is still active as a businessman in Charleston to this day.
