John Hagans

John Marshall Hagans (born August 13, 1838 in Brandonville , Schuylkill County , Virginia (now West Virginia ), † June 17, 1900 in Morgantown , West Virginia) was an American politician .

Hagans studied law at Harvard University . In 1859 he was admitted to the bar and practiced in Morgantown. From 1862 to 1864 and again in 1870 he was prosecutor for Monongalia County . Hagans served as Mayor of Morgantown in 1866, 1867, and 1869. In 1871 he was a member of an assembly that drafted the new state constitution.

Hagans was elected as a Republican in Congress and represented there from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875 the state of West Virginia in the US House of Representatives . After that, Hagans was an MP in the West Virginia House of Representatives from 1879 to 1889 . He died in Morgantown in 1900 and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery .
