Career

Alan Mollohan is the son of former Congressman Bob Mollohan , who represented the state of West Virginia twice in the US House of Representatives between 1953 and 1983. The younger Mollohan attended the Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg until 1962 . He then studied at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg ( Virginia ) until 1966 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in 1970. Between 1970 and 1983 he was a member of the US Army Reserve .

Like his father, Alan Mollohan became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1968, 1972 and 1976 he was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . In 1982 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , to succeed his father in the first district of West Virginia . There he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1983. After he was confirmed in the following elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2011. For the 2010 elections, he had to face an internal party primary since 1992, which he lost to State Senator Mike Oliverio . Thus, Mollohan had to resign from Congress in January 2011. Oliverio met in the election on the Republican David McKinley , an MP in the House of Representatives from West Virginia , and was defeated by this.

Mollohan sat on the Budget Committee and three of its sub-committees. He is considered a multiple millionaire. However, he is not without controversy - especially since allegations were made against him in 2006 that he did not report his income correctly. He was then forced to resign from the House Ethics Committee . There was further investigation; Mollohan acknowledged errors and submitted revised income reports. In 2009 he was accused of corruption by the organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).

Alan Mollohan is married to Barbara Whiting and lives privately in Fairmont.
