Mick Staton

David Michael "Mick" Staton (born February 11, 1940 in Parkersburg , West Virginia , † April 14, 2014 in Winchester , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1983 he represented the third constituency of the state of West Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mick Staton attended his homeland public schools including Parkersburg High School , which he graduated in 1958. Between 1961 and 1963 he studied at Concord College in Athens . From 1957 to 1965 he was a member of the US Army Reserve ( United States Army National Guard ). In the following years Staton worked, among other things, in data processing. From 1972 to 1980 he was Vice President of Kanawha Valley Bank in Charleston , the capital of West Virginia.

Politically, Staton joined the Republican Party . Between 1976 and 1980 he participated as a delegate at their regional party conventions in West Virginia. In 1980 he was also a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Detroit , where Ronald Reagan was nominated as the party's presidential candidate. In 1978 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

Two years later, Staton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the third district of West Virginia , where he succeeded Democrat John G. Hutchinson on January 3, 1981 . Since he lost to Bob Wise in the 1982 election , he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1983. After that time, Staton was political advisor to the US Chamber of Commerce from 1984 to 1990 . Most recently he lived in Inwood, West Virginia.
