Career

Edward Rohrbough's exact date of birth is unknown. The sources assume 1874 as the year of his birth. He attended public schools in his home country including West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. He then studied until 1900 at Allegheny College in Meadville ( Pennsylvania ) and then until 1906 at Harvard University . Rohrbough finished his studies at the University of Chicago . He then embarked on a career in school service. He was a teacher at West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Virginia University in Morgantown . In 1900 and 1901 he taught in Brookville, Pennsylvania; from 1901 to 1907 he was a teacher at the State Normal School in Glenville (West Virginia). In 1907 and 1908, Rohrbough was Vice President of the State Teacher College at Fairmont . From 1908 to 1942 he directed the Glenville Teachers College . In addition to these activities in the school service, he was also involved in banking.

Politically, Rohrbough was a member of the Republican Party . In 1942 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington as their candidate in the third district of West Virginia, where he succeeded the Democrat Andrew Edmiston on January 3, 1943 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Cleveland M. Bailey in the 1944 elections, he was only able to complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1945 , which was marked by the events of World War II . In 1946 Rohrbough was able to beat his rival Bailey and regain his old seat in the US House of Representatives. This enabled him to spend another term in Congress between January 3, 1947 and January 3, 1949. In the congressional elections in 1948, he lost in another clash with Bailey, who was then to exercise this mandate until 1963.

After leaving Congress, Edward Rohrbough was no longer politically active. He died on December 12, 1956 in the federal capital and was buried in Glenville.
