Charles Dorr

Charles Phillips Dorr (born August 12, 1852 in Miltonsburg , Monroe County , Ohio , † October 8, 1914 in Marlinton , West Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the third constituency of the State of West Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1866, Charles Dorr moved to Woodsfield, Ohio with his parents . There he attended public schools. In the following years he worked as a teacher in Ohio and West Virginia. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1874, he began working in West Virginia in his new profession that same year. Dorr was a member of the Republican Party and on the councilor of Webster Springs , West Virginia. He served in the West Virginia House of Representatives in 1884 and 1888 ; In 1887 he held the ceremonial office of "Sergeant at Arms" in this Chamber of Parliament.

In 1896, Dorr was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the third district of West Virginia , where he succeeded James Hall Huling on March 4, 1897 . Since he was no longer nominated for the following elections by his party, Dorr could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1899 . During this time the Spanish-American War fell . The Philippines and some other Pacific islands came under American control.

After his tenure in Congress, Dorr returned to working as a lawyer in Webster Springs. He died on October 8, 1914, on his estate near Marlinton.
