EH Hedrick
Erland Harold Hedrick (born August 9, 1894 in Barn , Mercer County , West Virginia , † September 20, 1954 in Beckley , West Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1953 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of West Virginia in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Erland Harold Hedrick attended his homeland public schools including the Beckley Institute . He then studied until 1917 at the University of Maryland in Baltimore medicine. During the First World War he was a first lieutenant in the medical service of the US Army . After the war he worked as a doctor in Beckley between 1919 and 1944. During the same period he was also a medical advisor to the Veterans Service. Between 1927 and 1932, Hedrick was also a health officer in his district. In 1943 and 1944 he directed the Pinecrest Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Beckley.
Politically, Hedrick became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1944 he was elected as their candidate in the sixth district of West Virginia to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Joe L. Smith on January 3, 1945 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four terms in Congress by January 3, 1953 . During this time the end of the Second World War fell . The 22nd amendment to the Constitution , which limited the number of presidential terms to two, was also discussed and passed at that time.
In 1952, Hedrick renounced another candidacy for Congress. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for gubernatorial elections in West Virginia. Then he went back to his job. E. H. Hedrick died in Beckley in September 1954.
