David McKinley (2011)

David B. McKinley (born March 28, 1947 in Wheeling , West Virginia ) is an American politician . Since 2011 he has represented the state of West Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David McKinley studied at Purdue University in Indiana until 1969 , where he trained as a civil engineer. He worked in this profession for twelve years before founding his own construction company McKinley and Associates in Wheeling . Many of his construction contracts came from government agencies. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1980 and 1995 he was a member of the West Virginia House of Representatives . From 1990 to 1994 he was also Chairman of the Republicans in his home state. In 1996 he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the upcoming gubernatorial elections .

In the 2010 congressional election , McKinley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of West Virginia , where he succeeded the no longer-running Democrat Alan Mollohan on January 3, 2011 . In the election he had just won against State Senator Mike Oliverio . As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. Its latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. In Congress , McKinley is or was a member of the Committee on Energy and Trade and two subcommittees. He also belongs to the tea party movement related Tea Party Caucus on. McKinley is also a member of the International Conservation Caucus , the Marcellus Shale Caucus , which he founded, the Congressional Cement Caucus and the Congressional Arts Caucus . He is married and has four grown children and several grandchildren.
