Josef Král

Josef Král (born June 15, 1990 in Dvůr Králové nad Labem ) is a Czech automobile racing driver . He started in the GP2 series from 2010 to 2012 .

Career

Král began his motorsport career in 1998 in karting , which he practiced until 2004. 2005 Král made in the Czech Formula 1400 in which he finished third overall, first experience in Formula racing . In 2006 he switched to the German Formula BMW and finished twelfth in the overall standings. In 2007 Král competed in the British Formula BMW for Raikkonen Robertson Racing , the team of Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen . With six wins he was runner-up in the British Formula BMW behind Marcus Ericsson . He also took part in two German Formula BMW races. He also took part in the Formula BMW World Finals in 2006 and 2007. He crossed the finish line second in both years and was then disqualified.

After starting two races in the 2007/2008 A1GP season for the Czech team in winter, Král contested his first season in the international Formula Master in 2008 . Starting for the JVA team , he finished sixth in the overall standings with a win. In 2009 Král stayed in the international Formula Master and switched to the Italian team JD Motorsport . With two wins he came third in the overall standings behind his teammate Sergei Afanassjew , who won the runner-up title.

In autumn Král was signed by Super Nova Racing for the 2009/2010 season of the GP2 Asia series . With a third place in the second race, he started the season well. Since he then scored no further points, he finished the season in eleventh place overall. In 2010 , Král started as a team-mate of Marcus Ericsson in the GP2 series for Super Nova Racing. During the sprint race in Valencia , Král had to go to hospital for examinations after a serious accident. He collided with Rodolfo González and hit the barrier. After he was brought to a Czech hospital in Prague by plane, he was diagnosed with two vertebral fractures. Because of his injury, Král had to skip five race weekends. At the season finale, he returned to his cockpit and scored his first points in the GP2 series. At the end of the season he finished 24th overall. He then completed his first Formula 1 test drives for HRT .

In 2011, Král competed for Arden International in both the GP2 Asia and the GP2 series. In the GP2 Asia series he was tenth in the championship with a second place as the best result. In the GP2 series , he finished 15th overall with a second place as the best result. His teammate Jolyon Palmer remained without points in the season. After the season, Král took part in the GP2 Final 2011 and was 16. 2012 Král moved within the GP2 series to the Barwa Addax Team , the championship team of the previous season. After he remained without points at the first race weekend, he was replaced by Dani Clos for the second race weekend . For the fourth event he got the cockpit back. Král remained largely without points. Only in Spa-Francorchamps did he get the points. At this event he also won the sprint race. Then he lost his cockpit to Jake Rosenzweig . In the overall ranking, Král was 17th.

In 2013 , Král found no permanent commitment. He participated in an Auto GP World Series event that year only for Zele Racing .
