Julian Alexander Sensley (born August 18, 1982 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is a former American - German basketball player . The 2.07 m wide Sensley played the small forward / power forward position, he wore as a basketball player nicknamed The Prodigal Son ( The Prodigal Son ). He played 14 full internationals for Germany.

Life

Born in New Orleans, Sensley grew up in Kailua ( Hawaii ) and has both US citizenship and German citizenship thanks to his Rostock mother Susanne Karsten, who emigrated to the United States in 1975 after her youth in Hamburg and who married Julian's father would have. Sensley has a younger brother named Max and loves tattoos . He is now married himself and has a son (* 2006).

Career

Julian Sensley attended Kalaheo High School on Oahu and played for their basketball team, the Kalaheo Mustangs. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at St. Thomas More School's Preparation School in Oakdale, Connecticut , which he attended for two years as preparation for college. In 2001 he was in the high school team Golden Bears of the University of California, Berkeley added. However, he was unable to successfully complete all academic exams right away, so that the NCAA sports organization refused to accept him as a player. So he left college and was then associated with three other colleges. After attending a camp of the US professional league NBA in the summer of 2002, he first went to the California State University, Fresno , but he could also here because of the lack of authorization from no match for the Bulldogs deny it that in early 2003, the Junior College Los Attended Angeles City College (LACC) before moving back to Hawaii.

In his home country, Sensley attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa from 2003 and played, after he had now been approved, in the college basketball team Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the college league NCAA Division I. In his senior year 2005/2006 he achieved a rate of 17.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, with better and better performances . During his three years with the Rainbow Warriors he managed over 1000 points and 500 rebounds.

In 2004, Sensley was discovered by the basketball Bundesliga coach Achim Kuczmann when he learned of his German descent. Then national coach Dirk Bauermann had Sensley observed by the former German national player Christian Welp , who was able to win Sensley for a commitment in the German national team, although he had never been to Germany and did not speak German . Sensley was naturalized in 2006 and came on July 28, 2006 in Hamburg for his first assignment for the national team. Reminiscent of Ademola Okulaja in his style of play , however, he was one of the last players to be removed from the final squad for the 2006 World Basketball Championship .

In the Italian second division Legadue , Sensley had signed a contract in Casale Monferrato in 2006 , which he ended before the start of the season and initially returned to the United States. In December 2006 he finally played in Europe after joining the Spanish ACB league in Valladolid . But that contract ended after only one month, so he that in January 2007 finally in Italy for the club from Livorno in the top division Lega Basket Serie A played. This contract also ended after two months and seven championship games. After he could not find an NBA club, he played with the Colorado 14ers in the NBA Development League until December 2007 , before being fired after an injury.

After the injury break, Sensley played in the 2008/2009 season for the Belgian first division club Dexia Mons-Hainaut in the D1 league. Already in March 2009 he returned to the Colorado 14ers before the end of the season and after seven games moved to league rivals Rio Grande Valley Vipers , with whom he won the championship in the NBA Development League in the following season 2009/10. In between he had introduced himself to Apollon Limassol in Cyprus , but had returned to the Vipers in November 2010. For the 2010/2011 season he signed a contract in Greece with Peristeri Athens . During the season he moved to Bornova Belediye in February 2011 , which, however, was relegated as the penultimate at the end of the season from the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi .

In the pre-season preparation for the 2011/12 season, Sensley introduced himself to the Greek first division club Ikaros Kallitheas , who did not sign him after four championship games. He then returned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the D-League, but moved there after five championship games in January 2012 to league rivals Austin Toros. After another nine season games, he was released in early March 2012 and continued the season in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional before ending the season with five appearances in the Venezuelan basketball league . After he was briefly active in the Dominican Republic , Sensley was hired in October 2012 by the South Korean club Samsung Thunders from Seoul , who immediately sold him to competitor Dongbu Promy from Wonju in a player swap for former Bundesliga professional Brandon Bowman . In the summer of 2013, he moved again to Atléticos de San German in Puerto Rico, then returned to Dongbu Promy in Korea. At the beginning of 2014 he switched to Gigantes de Guayana , he already played for this team in 2012. In December 2014, he moved to the Kirchheim Knights in the Second Basketball Bundesliga (ProA) . For Kirchheim, Sensley scored an average of 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in 13 games.

After the end of the 2014/15 season, he left Kirchheim and subsequently played again in Venezuela (Gigantes de Guayana and Cocodrilos de Caracas) and Argentina (Regatas Corrientes). In spring 2017, Sensley played for the Hawaii Swish team in the US league ABA. After his playing career, Sensley worked as a fitness trainer in Hawaii.
