Julio Alberto Pérez Cuapio (born July 30, 1977 in Tlaxcala de Xicoténcatl ) is a retired Mexican cyclist .

Pérez Cuapio became a professional at Ceramiche Panaria in 2000 . On his very first tour , the Tour de Langkawi , he finished second in 2000 and won a stage and the mountain classification . A year later he made his breakthrough at the Giro d'Italia , winning the royal stage ahead of Gilberto Simoni . At the next Giro he even won two stages and secured the Maglia Verde of the mountain classification. The outstanding climber won a stage at the Brixia Tour in 2004 and in 2005 he had his first overall success at the Giro del Trentino .

Four times Pérez Cuapio won the Mexican championship title in the individual time trial . In 2002 he won the road race of the Central American and Caribbean Games , and in 2004 he became the Pan American individual time trial champion.

He ended his career in January 2011.
