Kitchens is a district of Hessian Lichtenau in North Hessian Werra-Meissner , the foot of the High Meissner , at the mouth of Steinbaches in the weirs in Hesse .

history

Kitchens emerged from various devastations such as Weißner, Welbach and Geisenroder. These are still field names today. The first documentary mention is from 1363, when the von Kappel brothers sold half of the village to the Lords of Hundelshausen and another quarter of the village and the court "Kuchen" to the von Schlutwinsdorf , who in 1383 sold a quarter of it to Landgrave Hermann II . (Hessen) resold. In 1391 kitchens became a landgrave fiefdom of the von Hundelshausen family. In 1403 Lotze von Kappel transferred his rights to kitchens to his uncle von Hundelshausen. Ten years later Lotze von Kappel sold his rights to kitchens. Küchen was owned by the Germerode monastery from 1480 to 1527 . The monastery estate comprised twelve Hufen in 1519. Landgrave Wilhelm VI. von Hessen-Kassel assigned income from the Vorwerk to kitchens to those of Hundelshausen in 1571. Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel enfeoffed von Hundelshausen in 1715 with goods for kitchens.

The place belonged to the Hessian office Lichtenau until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton of Bischhausen in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

Kitchens had its own school until the school reform in Hesse in the 1960s. The old school, which was in use until 1901, stood next to the church. This building was taken over by the Political Community of Kitchens, sold and then converted into a residential building. It is still preserved as such today. The new school building was erected on the main street. It contained two classrooms, an apartment for the teacher and a stable. It was used as a school until the end of the 1960s. The most famous teacher was KF Deys. He composed the Küchener Heimatlied, was a cantor and taught kitchens at the school for many years. The building is now used as a village community center, the adjacent former barn serves as a fire station . Today the children go to primary school in Waldkappel, secondary schools from the 5th grade onwards are Hessisch Lichtenau or Eschwege .

Attractions

Symbol of the village is that of master builder in 1827 Johann Friedrich Mathei built hall church . The new church was built in the middle of the village on the site where a dilapidated wooden church used to stand. Between 1999 and 2003 the church was completely renovated. For this purpose, the church was dismantled into a shell and then rebuilt with old and new materials. The church has been looked after by the pastor from Harmuthsachsen since 1570 . On September 1, 2011, the parish of Harmuthsachsen, Hasselbach and Küchen was dissolved. Since May 1, 2013, the Protestant parish of Küchen has been incorporated into the Walburg parish and is looked after by the Walburg pastor.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are a few farms, a tattoo parlor and a wood pellet store.

From 1899 to 1985, Küchen was on the Kassel - Eschwege railway line and shared the station with Hasselbach. This was halfway between the two places. With the introduction of bus transport, the Kassel – Waldkappel railway became less and less attractive due to the location of the bus stop. In 1985 the traffic was stopped in favor of the regular bus. In the 1980s, a bypass was built for the B 7 running through the town , which freed the town from through traffic. With the construction of the Autobahn 44 , the construction of 2 green bridges between Hasselbach and Küchen began in autumn 2010. Construction of the Küchen tunnel along the A44 began in autumn 2012. This partially leads under the residential development, which led to damage to buildings during construction. The route of the old railway line is partially used for the A44.
