Administrative division of Luxembourg
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is divided into twelve cantons with 102 communes , most of which are made up of several localities. The cantons only serve as territorial units on the basis of which the electoral and administrative districts are organized and do not have their own administrative structures. From 1843 to 2015 there were also three districts as the highest administrative division.
Each canton is named after its administrative seat, with the exception of Capellen , which is actually a district of Mamer .
