The Zawada waterworks

Karchowice (German: Karchowitz ) is a village in Upper Silesia . It is located in the municipality of Zbrosławice (Broslawitz) in the powiat Tarnogórski (Tarnowitz district) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

Karchowice is located six kilometers southwest of the municipality Zbrosławice , 15 kilometers southwest of the district town of Tarnowskie Góry (Tarnowitz) and 28 kilometers northwest of the voivodeship capital Katowice (Kattowitz).

The place is on the valley of the Drama River .

history

The place originated in the 13th century at the latest and was first mentioned in a document in 1210. 1295–1305 the place was mentioned in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (tithe register of the diocese of Breslau) as "Karchowitz polonico".

The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Beytrage for the description of Silesia as Karchowi (t) z , belonged to a Herr von Strachwitz, was in the Tost district and had 123 inhabitants, a farm, a church, 15 farmers and seven gardeners. In 1818 the place was mentioned as Karchowitz . In 1856 the Catholic school was built. In 1865 the community had 19 farmers, nine gardeners, three cottagers and three water mills. In 1895 the waterworks was put into operation.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 52 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 155 for membership in Poland. Karchowitz remained with the German Empire . In 1936 the place was renamed Gutenquell . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Tost-Gleiwitz .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Karchowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Tarnogórski and the new Silesian Voivodeship .
