Wilkowice (German: Groß Wilkowitz ) is a village in Upper Silesia . It is located in the municipality of Zbrosławice (Broslawitz) in the powiat Tarnogórski (Tarnowitz district) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

geography

Wilkowice is three kilometers north of Zbrosławice , nine kilometers west of the district town of Tarnowskie Góry (Tarnowitz) and 28 kilometers northwest of the voivodeship capital Katowice (Kattowitz).

history

The place arose no later than the 13th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1256. 1295–1305 the place was mentioned in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (tithe register of the diocese of Breslau) as "Wilcow".

The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Beytrage describing Silesia as Groß Wilkowi (t) z , was in the Tost district and had 122 inhabitants, two farms, nine farmers and 16 gardeners. In 1818 the place was mentioned as Groß Wilkowitz . In 1865, Groß Wilkowitz consisted of a manor and a village community. The manor belonged to a Herr von Koschützki, the two farms Larischhof and Friedrichshof belonged to the estate . At that time the village had a farm, 26 gardening jobs, two cottages and a Catholic school.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 37 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 162 for membership in Poland. At the Groß Wilkowitz estate, eight people voted for Germany and 74 for Poland. Groß Wilkowitz remained with the German Reich and was part of the Tarnowitz district until 1922 . In 1936 the place was renamed Wolfstal . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Beuthen-Tarnowitz or Beuthen.

In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was renamed Wilkowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Tarnogórski and the new Silesian Voivodeship .
