Kassandra ( Greek Κασσάνδρα , pronounced Kassándra , ( f. Sg. ); Official name Dimos Kassandras Δήμος Κασσάνδρας) is a Greek community ( Dimos Δήμος) in the regional district of Chalkidiki in the Central Macedonia region . It was created as part of the Greek local government reform Schedio Kapodistrias in 1997 from the previously independent municipalities Kassandria , Kallithea , Afytos, Kalandra, Kassandrino, Kryopigi, Nea Fokea and Fourka, which continued to function as municipal districts after the merger to form Kassandra. On January 1, 2011, the southern neighboring parish Pallini was incorporated.
The municipality of Kassandra and its municipality occupy the peninsula of the same name (1st finger or 1st foot of the Chalkidiki peninsula). The area of the village of Nea Potidea , located immediately south of the Isthmus of Kassandra, belongs as a village to the municipality of Moudania of the municipality of Nea Propondida , which is also the northern neighboring municipality. The western boundary of the municipality is formed by the west coast of the Kassandra peninsula ( Thermaic Gulf ) and the east coast of the Kassandra peninsula ( Toronic Gulf ) forms the eastern border of the municipality. The municipality does not include any islands. The highest point of the municipality is the Livadakia mountain (altitude 353 m) south of the village Kassandrino . The lowest point of the municipality are the coasts of the Toronean and Thermaic Gulf (sea level).
The two municipalities up to 2010 currently form municipal districts (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki Enotita ). The parish districts are further subdivided into city districts (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki Kinotita ) or local communities (Topiki Kinotita), which correspond to the areas of the old parishes until 1997 and elect their own local representatives. The population figures come from the results of the 2011 census.
