Kazincbarcika [ kɒzintsbɒrtsikɒ ] is a North Hungarian industrial town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County with about 30,000 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Kazincbarcika is located at the foot of the Bükk Mountains in the Sajó Valley . The city emerged from the three settlements Sajókazinc, Barcika and Berente, some of which were mentioned as early as the 13th century.

history

In the previously agricultural area, coal mining led to an economic boom from the second half of the 19th century. After 1945 one of the four internment camps of the ÁVH of the communist regime in Hungary was located in the city .

The construction of the city began in 1951 and after two years the first apartments were handed over. In the 1960s, the city began to grow rapidly. Newcomers came from all over Northern Hungary, especially young people. The chemical plant in Borsod , today BorsodChem , was founded in 1963, which created many more jobs in the city. However, in the 1980s, many mines were closed, resulting in the loss of numerous jobs.

Facilities
