Kierwik ( German Kurwig , 1938 to 1945 Kurwick ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the Gmina Świętajno (rural community Schwentainen , 1938 to 1945 Altkirchen (Eastern Pr.) ) In the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ).
Geographical location
Kierwik is located on the west bank of the Kurwig Lake (1938 to 1945 Kurwick Lake , in Polish Jezioro Kierwik ) in the southern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 26 kilometers east of the district town of Szczytno ( German Ortelsburg ).
history
The "Gütchen Kurwig" (before 1820 Kurwik , after 1820 to 1898 Groß Kurwick ) was prescribed in 1650 to the Beutners Martzinzik and Guseck . In 1781, however, the financial circumstances were described as very miserable. From 1892 Kurwig (often also Kurwigk ) was a residential area within the municipality of Puppen ( Spychowo in Polish ) in the East Prussian district of Ortelsburg .
1945 Kurwick was in consequence of the war with the entire southern East Prussia to Poland transferred. The place received the Polish name form "Kierwik" and is today a place within the Gmina Świętajno (Schwentainen , 1938 to 1945 Altkirchen (Eastern Pr.) ) In the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship associated.

Until 1945 Kurwig / Kurwick was parish in the Protestant Church Puppen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church in Ortelsburg in the Diocese of Warmia . Today, on the Catholic side, Kierwik belongs to the Church of the Mother of God of Perpetual Help in Spychowo in the current Archdiocese of Warmia , and on the Protestant side to the Church in Szczytno in the Diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Kierwik is on a side road that branches off from state road 59 at Spychowo (Puppen) and leads via Bystrz (1938 to 1945 Brücknersmühl ) to Koczek (Waldersee) . Spychowo is also the nearest train station and is located on the Olsztyn – Ełk ( German Allenstein – Lyck ) line.
