Geographical location

The Racibórz district is located in the Masurian Lake District on the Baltic ridge . Characteristic for the landscape in this area are numerous lakes, swamps, ponds as well as coniferous and mixed forests. To the west is the lake Ratzeburger See (Polish: Jezioro Świętajno Łąckie ) and to the east is the Johannisburger Heide . The Olsztyn – Ełk railway runs south of the district . The national road 53 Szczytno – Rozogi and the national road 59 Mrągowo –Rozogi run nearby. The distance to the village of Kolonia is three kilometers, to Świętajno six kilometers and to Szczytno 24 kilometers.

history

Originally the region was inhabited by the pagan Prussians . Since 1243 the area belonged to the Teutonic Order State . After the Second Peace of Thorn in 1466, the region became part of the Duchy of Prussia and in 1701 became part of the Kingdom of Prussia and later the Province of East Prussia . In July 1874, the district of Ratzeburg No. 2 was formed with the chief forester.

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Ratzeburg belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether it would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus Germany) or join Poland. In Ratzeburg, 29 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not receive any votes.

At the end of January 1945, Grünwalde and Ratzeburg were captured by the Red Army and placed under the Soviet command. After the end of the war Grünwalde came to Poland and has since been called Kolonia and Ratzeburg Racibórz . From 1975 to 1998 Kolonia and Racibórz belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship .

church

Until 1945 the village of Ratzeburg was parish in the Evangelical Church of Schwentainen (Ortelsburg district) and the forest offices in the Evangelical Church of Puppen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union , and also in the Roman Catholic Church of Ortelsburg in the then diocese of Ermland . Today Racibórz belongs on the Protestant side to the Szczytno Church in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland , on the Catholic side to the parish of St. Andreas Bobola in Świętajno - with the branch church Kolonia - in the current Archdiocese of Warmia .
