geography

The Altmark village of Klein Gischau is located around five kilometers northeast of Beetzendorf.

history

Klein Gischau was first mentioned in a document as slavicalis gyschowe in 1344 when Margrave Ludwig left the Dambeck monastery with elevations from several villages.

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the village Wendischen Gischow is mentioned. The originally Slavic e village belonged to the monastery Dambeck. The Bede went to the of Bartensleben . The place name Wendisch Gischow was still used in 1608 .

The main type of grain cultivated in the western Altmark was rye. However, oats and barley were also frequently used as levies. Klein Gischau was one of the few places where wheat appeared as a tax.

The original Rundlingsdorf was structurally changed considerably after the fire in 1854.

At the southern exit of the village there was a Protestant chapel, first mentioned in 1541 . It collapsed in 1983 and was not rebuilt afterwards.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the communities of Klein Gischau and Groß Gischau from the Salzwedel district were merged to form the new community of Gischau.

On January 1, 2004, the Gischau community was incorporated into the Beetzendorf community. The districts of Klein Gischau and Groß Gischau thus became districts of Beetzendorf.
