Groß Gischau is a district of the municipality Beetzendorf in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany.

geography

The Altmark Groß Gischau, a round square village with a church on the square, is around 5 kilometers north of Beetzendorf an der Jeetze . The 37.7 meter high Röpelsberg rises in the southeast and the 34.5 meter high Kronsberg in the north.

history

Groß Gischau was first mentioned in a document in 1344 as teutonicalis gyschowe when Margrave Ludwig left lifts from several villages to the Dambeck Monastery .

The Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 mentioned Gischow , Giscow as property of the Dambeck Monastery . It raised 21  counting pieces and 1 12  bushels of rye there. The Bede about 8 1 / 2  Zählstücke flowed at Their of Bartensleben .

The local church records , the store wholesale Gischau the Protestant parish Beetzendorf, starting in 1559. They represent one of the oldest-sustaining in the Altmark.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the communities Groß Gischau and Klein Gischau from the Salzwedel district were merged to form the new Gischau community.

On January 1, 2004, the Gischau community was incorporated into the Beetzendorf community. The districts of Groß Gischau and Klein Gischau thus became districts of Beetzendorf.
