Way of the Cross (Impfingen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Way of the Cross in Impfingen , a district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg , begins at the cemetery in Impfingen , a little below the Impfingen cemetery chapel and leads uphill on the left edge of the Hohenstrasse towards the Hohenstrasse residential area of the same name . The Impfinger Kreuzweg is the attraction number 8 of 18 on the Impfinger wayside shrine (Kreuzweg with devotional cross). The fourteen stations of the cross were built in 1884 together with an adjoining final cross. These are cast iron stations, each of which is painted and has a wooden cross at the end. The exact author is not known. The stations of the cross were cast by a company from the Würzburg area, which also cast the similar stations of the Schweinberger Kreuzweg as well as the stations of the nearby way of the cross to the pilgrimage chapel Liebfrauenbrunn near Werbach. The Impfinger Freilandkreuzweg is a listed building .

Stations of the Cross

The Impfingerer Kreuzweg on Hohenstrasse includes 14 stations of the cross, which have the following inscriptions:

There are also other small monuments between the individual stations of the cross, for example:

  • Between the X. and XI. Station, above the old elevated water tank: a fourteen emergency wayside shrine with a large relief plate. The relief shows the 14 Holy Helpers. It dates from 1799. There was probably an old pilgrimage route along the road to the Vierzehnheiligen basilica near Bad Staffelstein in Upper Franconia . It is the sight No. 10 of 18 of the Impfinger wayside shrine. Next to it is a small devotional cross with a notice board explaining the 14 helpers in need.
  • After the XIV. Station: A final cross from 1884 (after the last of the fourteen Stations of the Cross). It is the attraction number 8 of 18 of the Impfingen wayside shrine (Way of the Cross with devotional cross).
