Mqabba [ m̩ˈʔɐbːɐ ] (or L-Imqabba ) is a small village in the south of the island of Malta with 3339 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018).
The place is known for its limestone quarries . Fossils were found in the Ta 'Xantin and Ta' Kandja quarries. Early Christian catacombs known as Ta 'Mintna were found in this village.
One of the largest fireworks manufacturers in Malta, the Santa Marija Fireworks Factory is based in Mqabba. This company organizes demonstrations every year.
Attractions
In addition to other structures, one can find the Vincenti Tower and various chapels in Mqabba, such as the chapels of St. Basil , Our Lady of Sorrows (Mary), St. John and St. Catherine .
The parish church is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady . In addition to the main festival of Santa Marija, with many visitors from all over the island watching the fireworks, the festival "Our Lady of the Lilies" is also celebrated.
Festivals
The Assumption of Mary is celebrated on August 15, also in Qrendi , Gudja , Għaxaq , Mosta , Attard and Victoria Rabat (Gozo) .
Our Lady of the Lilies is usually celebrated on the 3rd weekend in June.
Sports
Mqabba is home to FC Mqabba , a football club that currently plays in the second Maltese division, the First Division .
