history

Archaeological finds prove the settlement of the area since the Neolithic .

The village of Lažany arose on the Chrudimer Steig, a medieval trade route that led to Litomyšl on the Strenitzer Landessteig ( Trstenická stezka ). Lažany was first mentioned in a document in 1349 as the property of the Richenburg . The oldest news about the church comes from 1350, when the parish of Lažany was assigned to the newly established Litomyšl diocese . The parish church served as a burial place for the owners of the Richenburg. During the Thirty Years' War the parish of Lažany became extinct and the church became a branch church of the Skuch parish.

In 1835 the rustic village of Laschan or Lažan in the Chrudim district consisted of 27 houses in which 157 people lived. The Catholic parish was Skutsch, the Protestants were assigned to the pastorate Krauna . Until the middle of the 19th century, Laschan remained subject to the Richenburg rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial Lažany formed from 1849 a district of the municipality Rychmburk in the judicial district of Skuch . From 1868 the village belonged to the political district Hohenmauth . In 1869 Lažany had 147 inhabitants and consisted of 31 houses. In 1897 the Polička – Skutsch railway was built. In 1900 there were 164 people living in Lažany, in 1910 there were 178. Lažany broke away from Rychmburk in 1925 and formed its own municipality. In 1930 Lažany had 153 inhabitants. In 1949 the community was assigned to the newly formed Okres Hlinsko, and since 1961 it has belonged to Okres Chrudim. On January 1, 1976 it was incorporated into Skuteč. In the 2001 census, there were 106 people in the 47 houses in Lažany.

Community structure

The district forms the cadastral district Lažany u Skutče.
