Laura Bennett (* 25. April 1975 in North Palm Beach as Laura Marie Reback ) is a former American triathlete , two-time Olympian (2008, 2012) and Triathlon World runner-up (2003).

Career

Laura Reback started triathlon at the age of ten. Her two older brothers David and John were also active as triathletes.

In 1997 she was the second fastest American woman at the World Championships in Australia and since 1998 she has started as a professional.

US triathlon champion 2003

In 2003 she became American triathlon champion on the Olympic short distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) and in December in New Zealand she was runner-up world champion.

At the Triathlon World Championships of the ITU she was third on the short distance in 2004, 2005 and 2007.

2008 Summer Olympics

In 2008 she started at the Olympic Games in Beijing and finished fourth.
In September 2009 she won the Ironman 70.3 Augusta at her first start in the middle distance (half Ironman distance: 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) and thus qualified for a starting place in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships where she finished fifth in November.

In 2011 she became the national triathlon champion on the short distance for the third time.

2012 Summer Olympics

In 2012 she was able to qualify again for a starting place at the Olympic Games and reached 17th place in London in August. Laura Bennett won her second Ironman 70.3 race in June 2013 and her husband Greg also won the men's standings.

Long distance triathlon since 2014

At her first Ironman start in August 2014 she finished second in the first edition of the Ironman Boulder (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). In September she finished sixth in the World Triathlon Long Distance Championship in China. In June 2017, she declared her share time over.

She has been married to triathlete Greg Bennett since November 2004 and they both live in Boulder Colorado.
