Le Vernet is a French municipality with 129 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Digne-les-Bains and the Canton of Seyne . The inhabitants call themselves the Vernetois or Vernetiers .
geography
The community is located in the French Maritime Alps . It borders in the north on Seyne , in the northeast on Méolans-Revel (point of contact), in the east on Prads-Haute-Bléone , in the south on Beaujeu and in the west on Verdaches . The center of the village lies at 1200 m in the valley of the river Bès . The Pic des Têtes is a 2642 m high mountain in the municipality and marks its highest point. 689 hectares of Le Vernet are forested.

Plane crash in 2015
On March 24, 2015, a plane crash occurred near the municipality of Le Vernet . An Airbus A320 of the airline Germanwings with the flight number 4U9525 crashed in the Massif des Trois-Évêchés . All 144 passengers and 6 crew members were killed. Since the crash site is difficult to access in the district of neighboring Prads-Haute-Bléone , the memorial is located in the cemetery of Le Vernet.
