history

Bavaria was divided into districts in 1808

In the years 1806 to 1808, the Kingdom of Bavaria was divided into 15 (state) districts, whose names were based on rivers - following the French model : Mainkreis ( Bamberg ), Pegnitzkreis ( Nuremberg ), Rezatkreis ( Ansbach ), Nabkreis ( Amberg ), Regenkreis ( Regensburg and Straubing ), Altmühlkreis ( Eichstätt ), Oberdonaukreis ( Ulm ), Lechkreis (Augsburg), Isarkkreis ( Munich ), Salzachkreis ( Burghausen ), Unterdonaukreis ( Passau ), Illerkreis ( Kempten with Vorarlberg ), Innkreis ( Innsbruck ), Eisackkreis ( Brixen and Bozen ) and Etschkreis ( Trient ). This was determined by a very high ordinance for the territorial division of the kingdom of June 21, 1808.

The Lechkreis with the capital Augsburg comprised 13 regional courts and, since 1809, the cities of Augsburg and Memmingen which are directly in the district . The Lechkreis was dissolved as early as 1810 and its regional courts were divided between the Iller, Isar and Oberdonau districts.

The Lechkreis was General Commissioner Maximilian Ludwig Balthasar von Merz (1758-1811).
