history

In 1808 the Kingdom of Bavaria was divided into 15 districts, the names of which were based on rivers - following the French model : Mainkreis ( Bamberg ), Pegnitzkreis ( Nuremberg ), Rezatkreis ( Ansbach ), Nabkreis ( Amberg ), Regenkreis ( Regensburg and Straubing ), Altmühlkreis ( Eichstätt ), Oberdonaukreis ( Ulm ), Lechkreis ( Augsburg ), Isarkkreis ( Munich ), Salzachkreis ( Burghausen ), Unterdonaukreis ( Passau ), Illerkreis (Kempten with Vorarlberg ), Innkreis ( Innsbruck ), Eisackkreis ( Brixen and Bozen ) and Etschkreis ( Trento ). This was determined by a very high ordinance for the territorial division of the kingdom of June 21, 1808.

The Illerkreis with the capital Kempten initially comprised 21 regional courts and, from 1809, the cities of Kempten and Lindau, which are direct from the district, and Memmingen from 1810. In 1810 some regional courts came to the Kingdom of Württemberg , at the same time the Illerkreis was enlarged by some regional courts of the Innkreis and the Lechkreis , but in 1814 had to hand over some regional courts to Austria. In 1817 the Illerkreis was almost completely incorporated into the Upper Danube District, only the Schongau Regional Court came to the Isar District .

The Illerkreis was headed by General Commissioner Karl August von Reisach .
