Lenin sculptures in non-socialist countries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lenin Monument in the Netherlands; 2009

Lenin monuments have been erected in numerous cities of the Soviet Union and other socialist countries since the death of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin . They emerged in the course of a personality cult developed around him and were intended to honor Lenin as a communist pioneer and founder of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the political change, many of these monuments were dismantled or destroyed. Outside of the former Eastern Bloc there were and still are some Lenin monuments. Only these are presented in the following article and are sorted by continent. Very few sculptures were in the places mentioned here before 1990. They have often gotten to their current locations by gift or purchase.
