Leopold Pfaundler von Hadermur (born February 14, 1839 in Innsbruck , † May 6, 1920 in Graz ) was an Austrian physicist and alpinist .

Pfaundler, son of a lawyer, studied chemistry , physics and mathematics in Innsbruck , Munich and Paris . He received his doctorate on July 27, 1861 and was on March 23, 1866 Privatdozent for physical chemistry . On August 29, 1867, he became a full professor of physics in Innsbruck. In 1887 he also became a full member of the Vienna Academy of Sciences . In 1891 he was appointed professor of physics at the University of Graz . Pfaundler succeeded for the first time in 1870 in generating a continuous electrical current with the help of an electric motor . In 1888 he constructed a projector for Lissajous figures .

A work by him from 1874, together with one by August Friedrich Horstmann (1873), was the first application of the second law of thermodynamics to chemical equilibria.

Alpinism

From 1859 Pfaundler began as a student with mountaineering and surveying the Tyrolean mountains. With his companions Robert von Hörmann , Josef von Trentinaglia and Hugo von Enzenberg , he mainly devoted himself to the still poorly described regions of the Karwendel Mountains , especially the Gleirsch-Halltal chain . In the course of this work, in which Pfaundler measured and mapped while Hörmann, Trentinaglia and Enzenberg described geology, flora and fauna, the first ascent of several peaks was achieved, such as the Hohen Gleirsch , the Jägerkarspitzen and the Gleirschtaler Brandjoch . In 1861 Pfaundler turned to surveying the Ötztal and Stubai Alps . Again he climbed some peaks for the first time , this time together with Ludwig von Barth and the mountain guide Alois Tanzer , such as the Ostliche Seespitze , the Aperen Freiger and the Pfaffenschneide (all 1863). In 1869 Pfaundler was one of the signatories of the appeal to found the German Alpine Club and was active on the board of the Innsbruck section .

Others

Pfaundler was one of the founders of the Innsbruck gymnastics club and the Corps Rhaetia . From 1909 until shortly before his death he published the German Gozeitung and was also the author of a Go book.

On August 10, 1910 Pfaundler was raised to the nobility and was given the surname "von Hadermur".
