Leopold von Zastrow (born October 15, 1702 in Kölpin , † February 20, 1779 in Kassel ) was a Prussian , later Hesse-Kasselian lieutenant general .

He was a son of Bernd Christian von Zastrow (1644-1717), heir to Kölpin, Bärwalde and Neuhof, and his wife Anna Katharina von Bonin from the Naseband family. Zastrow was married to Anna Dorothea Elisabeth von Reibnitz (1725-1808) since 1761 .

Military career

Zastrow went into French service at a young age, where he rose to become captain . Then he was called into the Prussian Army by Friedrich II and employed as a major in the "Forcade" infantry regiment after he had already been in the field in the Battle of Soor . At the beginning of the Seven Years' War Zastrow was a lieutenant colonel and was wounded in the battle of Prague . For the battle near Reichenberg, Zastrow was awarded the order Pour le Mérite . In the battle of Leuthen the regiment "von Geist" he commanded formed the head of the third attack column. In 1758 he was promoted to commandant of Schweidnitz , in 1759 chief of infantry regiment No. 38 and in 1760 to major general.

In 1761 Schweidnitz was taken by the Austrians under Gideon Ernst von Laudon in a surprise attack. On March 3, 1763, the king ordered a court martial investigation into the case of Schweidnitz. The court martial under General der Kavallerie Zieten found Zastrow guilty and sentenced him to two years of imprisonment. Thereupon he resigned as lieutenant general in 1765 and entered Hesse-Kassel services the following year. The Landgrave Friedrich II. Zastrow gave the House Order of the Golden Lion .
