List of Members of the Salzburg State Parliament (3rd legislative period)
This list of members of the Salzburg state parliament (3rd legislative period) lists all members of the Salzburg state parliament in the third legislative period or the 7th electoral period. The legislative period lasted from the constitution of the state parliament on December 11, 1954 to July 1, 1959. The constitution of the subsequent state parliament of the fourth legislative period took place on July 2, 1959.
With an amendment to the state constitutional law, the number of state parliament members was increased from 26 to 32 in 1945. As a result, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had 15 of the 32 MPs after the state elections in 1954 , which meant that it had gained three MPs. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) had 13 seats (9 so far), while the Independent Party of Independence lost one seat despite the increase in the number of seats and was only represented with four seats.
After the members of the state parliament had sworn in, the constituent meeting on December 11, 1954, elected the state government, Klaus II , succeeding the state government, Klaus I.
Functions
Landtag President
In the third legislative period, the office of the President of the State Parliament was again taken over by the President of the State Parliament, Franz Hell (ÖVP), who has been in office since 1945 . The function of the First Deputy President of the State Parliament has also remained unchanged since 1945 with Franz Illig (SPÖ). Due to the loss of the WdU, however, the office of second deputy state parliament president fell back to the ÖVP, which Michael Haslinger nominated for the office. The three functions were chosen on the day the Landtag was constituted, December 11, 1954.
