This bridge leads the Uhlandstrasse over the north ditch . At the southern end the bridge is in the Wilhelmsruher area , but according to the official map 1: 5000 the entire bridge belongs to the district of Rosenthal. It has a length of 40 meters by a width of 10 meters with a two-lane road with sidewalks. The deeply sunk north ditch cannot be seen from the road through the bushes on either side of the road. The Untere Freiarchenbrücke is a pedestrian bridge over the sluice ditch of the Landwehr Canal in the Großer Tiergarten . It leads from the garden bank at the zoological garden to the lock island at the lower lock and together with the neighboring lower lock bridge forms an entrance to the park. The original bridge from 1940/41 was replaced in 1998/99 by a steel structure almost 23 m long and four meters wide, which increased the passage height for ships from 3.50 to four meters. Arche is an old German name for lock (from Latin Arche = roughly ship-like box ).
