List of governors of Velletri
The title of Governor of Velletri was given to the Cardinal Bishop of Velletri , who was also always Cardinal Dean , for the first time by Pope Paul III. awarded in a breve in 1548 .
Pope Sixtus V changed this after the death of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese il giovane on March 5, 1589. The successor Gregory XIV took the change back on March 23, 1591 in the Breve Si de restituendis and restored the secular power of the Cardinal Bishop. In September 1870 the title was abolished with the end of the Papal States.
