Antonio Maria Galli , also known as Antonio Maria Gallo , (* probably October 18, 1553 in Osimo , † March 30, 1620 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church and Bishop of Perugia .

Life

He came from a patrician family from the Marche and was the second of eight children of Pierstefano Gallo and his wife Cleofe Massi (or da Sirolo). At the age of 21, Antonio Maria Galli moved to Rome and was entrained by Cardinal Felice Peretti di Montalto , OFMConv. , later Pope Sixtus V. At first he served as cupbearer , later as secretary.

Appointed Bishop of Perugia on November 5, 1586 he received on 11 November 1586, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Castrucci , Archbishop of Chieti , with the assistance of Pietro Lunello , Bishop of Gaeta , and Antonio Migliori , Bishop of San Marco , the episcopal ordination .

Pope Sixtus V created him in the consistory of November 16, 1586 as a cardinal priest and assigned him on January 14, 1587 as the titular church of Sant'Agnese in Agone . On January 15, 1590, Cardinal Galli was appointed Papal Legate for Romagna until the end of the year, and on July 19, 1591 he was appointed Bishop of Osimo .

On August 30, 1600 he moved to the titular church of Santa Prassede . The 1605 newly elected Pope Paul V promoted Galli from the beginning of his reign and elevated him to Cardinal Bishop of Frascati on June 1, 1605 . On May 28, 1608 Galli became Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina , on August 17, 1611 Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina and on September 16, 1615 he was appointed Dean of the Holy College and at the same time Cardinal Bishop of Ostia e Velletri and Governor of Velletri .

He was buried in the Roman church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli .
