Military career

Böcklin graduated from high school and then attended the cadet institute in Karlsruhe. On September 20, 1857 he was transferred to the 2nd Fusilier Battalion of the Baden Army as a portepeefähnrich . Here Böcklin was promoted to lieutenant on July 28, 1858 and was transferred to the 1st Fusilier Battalion on January 16, 1866 while simultaneously being promoted to Prime Lieutenant . As an adjutant of the 1st Infantry Brigade, Böcklin took part in the battles near Hundheim , Werbach and Gerchsheim during the war against Prussia .

After the war, he was transferred to the Leib Grenadier Regiment on October 26, 1867, leaving his position as brigadjutant . From April 7, 1869, he was employed as a captain and company commander in the 2nd Infantry Regiment . With this regiment, Böcklin took part in the siege of Strasbourg and the fighting at Wörth , Belfort , Bruyères , the Ognon , Dijon and Nuits during the war against France in 1870/71 . His achievements were honored by being awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Knight's Cross of the Military Karl Friedrich Order of Merit .

After the establishment of the Empire and the Peace of Frankfurt , on July 15, 1871, he was taken over with his regiment in the Prussian Army . On the occasion of the autumn exercises of the XIV Army Corps , Böcklin acted as Ordonnanzoffizier von Kaiser Wilhelm I. After his promotion to Major on June 11, 1879 , Böcklin came on April 1, 1881 as a regular staff officer in the 4th Guards Regiment on foot . From November 15, 1883 to February 2, 1887 he commanded the 1st Battalion, was in the meantime Lieutenant Colonel and then moved up to the staff. Subsequently, Böcklin, as Lieutenant General, was in command of the 31st Division, which was also stationed in Strasbourg . In this capacity he was awarded the Order of the Crown 1st Class on January 15, 1899 . Although suitable for the function as commanding general , further use failed due to the fact that Böcklin had already passed the 60th year of life. He was therefore transferred to the officers of the army on May 22, 1899 and put up for disposal on June 10, 1899 with the statutory pension and award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class with oak leaves .

In subsequent recognition of his many years of service, Böcklin received the crown of the Order of the Red Eagle on September 13, 1899, and on April 24, 1902, the character of general of the infantry. Wilhelm II also paid tribute to him on September 13, 1911 by being awarded the uniform of the 4th Guards Regiment on Foot.
