Ludwig von Wurmb

Ludwig Georg Wilhelm Adalbert von Wurmb (born May 2, 1788 in Treptow an der Rega or Wollin , † February 28, 1855 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade .

Life

origin

Ludwig was the son of Friedrich Christian von Wurmb (1744–1827) and his wife Sophie Friederike Abigail, born von Borcke (1770–1796). She was a daughter of Wilhelm Friedrich Leopold von Borcke (1737–1787) and Friederike Gottliebe Tugendreich von Winterfeld. His father was a Prussian major a. D. , most recently in the cuirassier regiment "Margrave Friedrich" as well as a gentleman on Unterlosa .

Military career

Wurmb attended school in Koenigsberg in the Neumark and joined the cuirassier regiment "von Bailliodz" of the Prussian army in December 1800 as an Estandartenjunker . There he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant by mid-January 1806 and took part in the battles near Jena and Gadebusch during the Fourth Coalition War. In Lübeck Wurmb was wounded by a shot through the foot and fell through the surrender of Ratekau in captivity .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Wurmb joined the Brandenburg Uhlan Regiment on July 10, 1809, and the Guard Uhlan Squadron was aggregated in early November 1812 . On March 14, 1813, he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and as such he was recruited on July 21, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation Wurmb fought near Leipzig , Châlons and Vitry. After being promoted to staff rankmaster , he was transferred to the Guards Dragoon Regiment on March 13, 1815 , and advanced to Rittmeister on June 8, 1815 and squadron chief on April 5, 1816 . As a major, Wurmb received the Order of St. John on January 25, 1825 . On February 17, 1834, he was initially assigned to lead the 3rd Uhlan Regiment. At the same time he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , he was appointed regimental commander on March 30, 1835. With a patent dated April 2, 1837, Wurmb rose to colonel on March 30, 1837 and received the diamonds for the Order of St. Anne II on June 8, 1838 . On April 7, 1842 he was transferred to Danzig as commander of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade and in this capacity was promoted to major general on March 22, 1843. Because of the continuing problems with his war injury he was placed on March 19, 1844 Board for disposition .

After his departure, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on January 19, 1845 . Wurmb died on February 28, 1855 in Berlin and was buried on March 3, 1855 in Dannenwalde .

He married on December 27, 1812 in Falkenhagen Adelheid von Kleist (1795-1854), a daughter of the poet Franz Alexander von Kleist . The couple had several children:
