Luis Fernando Ramos Pérez (born January 2, 1959 in Santiago de Chile , Chile ) is a Chilean clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Puerto Montt .

Life

Luis Fernando Ramos Pérez holds a degree in engineering from the Universidad de Chile . He then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Santiago de Chile. At the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , he became a doctor of theology in specialist biblical criticism doctorate . Ramos Pérez received on 5 May 1990, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1990 to 1993 Luis Fernando Ramos Pérez was prefect at the seminary in Santiago de Chile and parish vicar of the parish of Cristo Emaús . From 1993 he was parish vicar of the parish of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo before he became a collaborator of the Congregation for Bishops in 1999 . In 2007, Ramos Pérez became Episcopal Vicar for Education in the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile and Regens the Seminary in Santiago de Chile.

On February 1, 2014 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Tetci and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Santiago de Chile. On June 28, 2018, Pope Francis appointed Fernando Ramos, in addition to his offices in the Archdiocese of Santiago, as Apostolic Administrator of the Bishopric of Rancagua, which had become vacant after Alejandro Goic's resignation was accepted . Among other things, he was given the task of investigating the case of a conspiratorial priestly brotherhood called La Familia , which was uncovered in spring 2018 and is said to have built up a clerical network in the diocese for the purpose of the coordinated sexual abuse of children and young people . In October 2018, Ramos came to the conclusion that the canonical preliminary investigations under his responsibility, which were headed by the diocesan priest Patricio Cavour Calderón, as well as the public prosecutor's investigation, had shown that such a criminal association was carried out by the Chilean media and the public prosecutor's office in the region O'Higgins' initially assumed form did not exist. Ramos reinstated two pastors who had been forcibly removed from office by the state authorities in connection with the investigation and against whom he believed no credible allegations had been made - which he had confirmed by the public prosecutor's office - to their pastoral offices .

In connection with allegations of cover-up and obstruction of the investigation of cases of sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church in Chile , in September 2018 Chilean law enforcement agencies secured emails sent by Ramos and Chilean cardinals Ricardo Ezzati, incumbent Archbishop of Santiago, and Francisco Errázuriz, his predecessor. In January 2019, Ramos Pérez, along with his Archbishop Cardinal Ezzati of Santiago, the chairman of the Chilean Bishops' Conference Santiago Silva Retamales , Archbishop René Osvaldo Rebolledo Salinas ( La Serena ) and Bishop Juan Ignacio González Errázuriz ( San Bernardo ) belonged to the delegation of the Chilean bishops traveled to Rome on an extraordinary visit to brief Pope Francis on the progress made in dealing with the Chilean abuse scandal.

On December 27, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Puerto Montt. The inauguration took place on February 29, 2020.
