Wooded area

The Mühldorfer Hart is a forest area of around 1100 hectares in the Mühldorf am Inn district . A sub-area of this is the 7.12 km² area of the same name, which is free from municipalities . Starting in the north in a clockwise direction, it borders on the communities of Ampfing , Mettenheim , Mühldorf am Inn and Waldkraiburg . The forest area has been designated as a landscape protection area since October 29, 1979 . The Hart is located on a low terrace of the Würm Cold Age .

Armaments bunker

Under the code name Weingut I , a semi-underground armament bunker for the production of the Messerschmitt Me 262 was to be built here during the Second World War with the use of concentration camp prisoners, prisoners of war and forced labor . The factory bunker was 33 meters wide and 400 meters long with eight floors under twelve huge concrete arches. Only seven of the arches were completed for the production facility. After the war, six of the arches with 110 tons of TNT were blown up by US forces. The systems were looped . Only remnants are evidence of this project.

Concentration camp memorial

In connection with the construction project, several external concentration camps and labor camps were created in Mühldorfer Hart. To commemorate the suffering of the prisoners and the dead buried in the surrounding concentration camp cemeteries, a three-part concentration camp memorial was opened in Mühldorfer Hart in April 2018.
