The 2008 MTV Australia Awards were presented on April 26, 2008 at the Australian Technology Park , Sydney , New South Wales . It is the sequel to the MTV Australia Video Music Awards , which have changed their name. In addition to the name change, some awards were newly awarded and given new names. For the first time, local artists from Australia and New Zealand were honored separately.

The moderator of the evening was Wyclef Jean . Initially, Lindsay Lohan was announced as a star guest, but she had to cancel due to filming.
