Magomed Shakhanovich Omarov

Magomed Schachbanowitsch Omarow ( Russian Магомед Шахбанович Омаров ; born October 16, 1989 in Kaspijsk , Dagestan ) is a Russian boxer of Dagestan origin. He became European champion in Ankara in 2011 and took 5th place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London , both in the super heavyweight division .

Career

Magomed Omarov won bronze at the Russian championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011. At the 2011 European Championships in Ankara he won the gold medal and defeated Olexandr Trifonov, Milutin Stanković, Mikheil Bakhtidze and Roberto Cammarelle on the way to the title .

In 2012 he also won the Russian championship for the first time, beating Maxim Babanin and Sergei Kuzmin , among others . He was also able to win the European Olympic qualification in 2012 in Trabzon , where he could defeat Mihail Muntean, Wiktar Sujeu , Filip Hrgović , Muhammet Acı and Tony Yoka . He then started at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and defeated Dominic Breazeale in the preliminary round before he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Məhəmmədrəsul Məcidov . He was also defeated in the quarter-finals at the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , after defeating Ali Eren Demirezen and Yoandris Toirac. He was also the winner of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan and won bronze at the Russian Championships in 2013 and 2014.

In 2015 he became Russian runner-up and took part in the 2015 European Championships in Samokov , where he prevailed against Guido Vianello in the preliminary round , but lost to Petar Belberov in the quarter-finals . After winning bronze at the national championships again in 2016, he was again Russian champion in 2017 by beating Maxim Babanin in the final. In 2018 he won a bronze medal again.

World Series of Boxing / AIBA Pro Boxing

Omarow boxed in the Russian Boxing Team in 2014 and in the Patriot Boxing Team in the World Series of Boxing in 2017 , and from 2014 he also started in the semi-professional AIBA Pro Boxing tournament mode . However, he failed in the APB / WSB World Olympic Qualifier while attempting to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games .
