Marek Hrivík (born August 28, 1991 in Čadca , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with Leksands IF from the Svenska Hockeyligan since August 2019 .
Career
Marek Hrivík went through the youth department of MsHK Žilina in his youth , before he was accepted into the Slovak U20 national team in 2008. This takes part under the name HK Orange 20 in the game operation of the Slovakian Extra League, in which the attacker scored 14 points in 34 games in the 2008/09 season . Then chose him Moncton Wildcats in the CHL Import Draft of 2009 to the 34th position before he made the transition to North America and the start of the 2009/10 season for the Wildcats in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) aground . In his first LHJMQ season, Hrivík won the playoffs for the Coupe du Président with the team , before he reached the mark of 70 points in each of the following two seasons and was still not considered in any NHL entry draft . In 2010 , however, Barys Astana had selected him in 118th position in the KHL Junior Draft .
As a result, the attacker joined the Connecticut Whale from the American Hockey League (AHL) on probation in March 2012 , this engagement two months later resulting in an entry-level contract with their NHL cooperation partner, the New York Rangers . In the coming years, the Slovak established himself as a regular scorer in the AHL, both with the Connecticut Whale and later with the renamed Hartford Wolf Pack , before making his debut for the Rangers in the National Hockey League (NHL) in February 2016 . In the 2016/17 season, Hrivík completed 16 games for New York, but never established himself in their NHL line-up.
Subsequently, his contract, which expired in the summer of 2017, was not extended, so that in July 2017 he moved as a free agent to the Calgary Flames , who also use him mainly in the AHL at the Stockton Heat . He then returned to Europe after nine years in North America by joining HK Vitjas from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in July 2018 .
International
At international level, Hrivík made his debut at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2008 and took part in the U18 World Championships in 2008 and 2009 . He represented the Slovak U20 national team at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships , with the team reaching the semi-finals in 2009. He finally made his debut for the senior national team in his home country at the 2014 World Cup , with the Slovak selection finishing ninth.
