Marko Šćekić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Марко Шћекић ; born May 23, 1981 in Zvornik , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a former Serbian basketball player who has played for various clubs in Europe . His greatest success is the 2009 German championship with the EWE Baskets Oldenburg . In 2011 he won the Montenegrin Cup competition with KK Budućnost Podgorica , but then moved to the Italian Serie A at the traditional club from Cantù at the end of the season . After further stations in Italy , Bosnia and Slovenia , he ended his active career in 2015 and became a coaching assistant at KK Igokea Aleksandrovac in his Bosnian-Serbian homeland.

Career

Šćekić moved in 2000 from his hometown club to the Bosnian double winner KK Borac from Banja Luka . With the young Šćekić, the club could not repeat these successes in the following years. In 2004 Šćekić finally moved to the Serbian Novi Sad to KK Vojvodina. He left this club for three years and moved to Zgorzelec in Poland for one season . With the Polish runner-up in 2007 with Turów, he was able to recommend himself to neighboring Germany and was brought into the German basketball league by his Serbian compatriot Predrag Krunić as the coach of EWE Baskets . In his first season in Germany, he won the first championship title for the North German club in a dramatic final series in 2009 against Telekom Baskets Bonn . In the following season they started as the main round first in the playoffs 2010 and retired like all other teams with home rights in the first play-off series despite an increase in performance by Šćekić compared to the main round against the main round eighth Phantoms Braunschweig . After this disappointing experience for the defending champion, Šćekić also fell victim to the personnel restructuring and he moved back to the Balkans

Šćekić joined the Dominican KK Budućnost from Podgorica in 2010 . After winning the Cup in 2011 in Montenegro, he was signed for the play-offs of the Italian championship by the former national championship winner from Cantù. After the runner-up with Cantù at the end of the season, when they lost the final series against series champion Montepaschi Siena , they were eliminated in the following season as third in the main round in the first play-off round. As the 2012/13 runner-up cup they won the Italian " Supercoppa " against Siena at the start of the 2012/13 season, and won the qualifying round in front of their home crowd once again in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 , but this time in the preliminary round retired after having reached the round of the 16 best teams in Europe a year earlier. At the end of the season, they reached the semi-finals in the national championship, after being able to narrowly defeat the second main round Banco di Sardegna Sassari in the first round . Here you lost against Acea Rome despite a lead in victories the decisive last two games in the " best-of-seven " series. Subsequently, Šćekić moved to Pallacanestro Cimberio from Varese , who had lost their semifinals to series champion Siena. The main round first of the previous season, however, missed the renewed entry into the play-offs at the end of the 2013/14 season, after having been eliminated early in the Eurocup 2013/14 after only three wins in ten preliminary round games.

Shortly before the start of the 2014/15 season, Šćekić moved back to the region around Banja Luka and joined the KK Igokea in Opština Laktaši . However, the Bosnian champion and former Eurocup participant released Šćekić from his contract after just one month, so that his last career station in spring 2015 was the Helios Suns from Domžale , Slovenia . The table seventh surprisingly defeated KK Union Olimpija in the play-offs , but lost the semi-final series for the championship against KK Rogaška. The following season Šćekić was assistant coach at KK Igokea, who had released him early as a player a year earlier.
