Mason Cyrille Elong Ewing was born on April 9, 1982 in Douala , the economic capital of Cameroon . He is a French, Cameroonian, and American film producer , director , screenwriter, and fashion designer who lives in France and the United States. Mason Ewing Corporation, founded in 2011, is headquartered in Los Angeles . Although he is blind, he has built a thriving business and artistic career.

biography

Early life

His father, Frederik Ewing, is an American businessman who died in November 2010 . Mason lived with his Jewish Cameroonian mother, Marie Francesca Elong, who was a model and seamstress , until he was four . She inspired him and gave him a taste for fashion. Mason spent a lot of time with her while she was making dresses for her children. His beloved mother died in March 1986 .

His great-grandmother Elise then looked after him for three years. In 1989 he moved to the Paris region, where he lived with his uncle and aunt Lucien and Jeannette Ekwalla, where he suffered extreme child abuse . Not only was he locked in a room and beaten for eight years, but chili peppers were thrown in his eyes for several years. Desperate, he often ran away in 1993 to seek help from the police and judges, and asked to be released from the care of his uncle and aunt.

As a result of her abuse, Mason tragically lost his eyesight in April 1996 and fell into a coma for three weeks in the Necker-Enfants Malades hospital in Paris . Miraculously, he survived. In 2001 he became homeless and ended up in the SAMU (Medical Emergency Service in France ). He won a court ruling against his uncle and aunt that awarded him € 5000 (which was never paid) and a one-year suspended sentence.

Career

Rebecca Ayoko, a favorite of Yves Saint-Laurent in the 1980s , ended up twice at Mason's Ewing's fashion show in 2017 with a magnificent wedding dress . L'Oreal has supported his work in France for several years .

On September 20, 2006 , his first fashion show took place at Les Salons Vianeys in Paris . Many famous personalities were present there, such as Celine Balitran, Laurent Petitguillaume and Olivier Lapidus. In November 2008 he organized his third fashion show on the barge La Planète sur Seine with Rachel Legrain-Trapani ( Miss France 2007), who ended the show in a spectacular wedding dress. In 2017 , he worked with chocolatier Andre Kanakine to design a dress for the chocolate salon fashion show in Russia.

Some famous people in France have supported his work, including TV presenter Laurent Petitguillaume (who presented several of his fashion shows), Olivier Lapidus (former artistic director of Lanvin ), football players Emmanuel Petit , Bruno Bellone , Luc Sonor, Olivier Dacourt and Alioune Touré, who former manager of the football team Paris Saint-Germain , Luis Fernandez , the former European basketball champion Paoline Ékambi, the actress Firmine Richard , the French politician Frederic Mitterrand and the state secretary for child protection Adrien Taquet as well as the television journalist Dominique Torres, who is his godmother.

In addition to his fashion projects, Mason Ewing works on film projects in France and the USA . He created the children's series The Adventures of Madison and the Mickey Boom series. In 2011 he moved to America to become a film producer . His holding company, Mason Ewing Corporation in Los Angeles , has various projects in film and television production. He wrote the television series Eryna Bella and produced the short film Descry .

Since April 2015 , its French subsidiary Les Entreprises Ewing, a subsidiary of the Mason Ewing Corporation, has its headquarters in Clichy , France. He is a member of the French manufacturing union UPC.

After living in Los Angeles for a few years, he returned to France to focus on his popular television series Mickey Boom , which is supported by French and international networks . This series was inspired by the American television shows he enjoyed watching as a teenager.

In 2019 he produced the feature film Love in Yaounde , a romantic comedy .

Awards

In 2018 , Mason Ewing was recognized by Afrimpact Magazine in Pennsylvania with the AIM Award for his community work. For many years he has supported the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Le Comité Contre l'Esclavage Moderne. He is also an ambassador for the NGO Handicap International and the Le Refuge association for young people at risk LGBTQ + . He is supported by the State Secretary for Child Protection Adrien Taquet.
