Matthias Claudius Church

The Protestant Matthias Claudius Church at Schulzendorfer Straße 19-21 in the Berlin district of Heiligensee in the Reinickendorf district was built according to a design by Jürgen Bachmann and was inaugurated on October 2, 1938.

history

The improvement of the infrastructure between Heiligensee and Tegel through the tram and between Heiligensee and Berlin through the Schulzendorf and Heiligensee stations led to many new buildings , especially between the stations and the Angerdorf Heiligensee. The number of newcomers made a new assembly building necessary in addition to the Heiligensee village church . A community center was built on Schulzendorfer Strasse . The congregation that formed there broke away from the village church on April 1, 1957 and has been independent since then.

Building description

The simple hall church is a masonry structure that is plastered over the base .

Church building

The nave is covered with a gable roof. The portal is at the front . The top of the gable above is clad with boards , and a cross is emblazoned on it. Set back to the side there is a building that houses community rooms and offices . The building complex was supplemented by Wolfgang Pingel in 1964. The nave received an annex for the sacristy .

The flat ceiling of the church interior is higher in the middle than on the long sides, which creates a basilical impression. The choir has a rectangular floor plan and is retracted. Opposite it is a gallery .

Bell tower

The adjoining the sacristy Campanile is a reinforced concrete - skeleton with infill from left visible bricks . There are three bronze bells hanging in his belfry , the small one of which already hung in the bell gable on the street side :
