history

The congregation that chose the apostle John as its namesake was only separated from the Apostle Peter congregation in 1972. Their community center was planned before the community itself existed. The architecturally demanding structure marks the climax of the enthusiasm for concrete at the time , even the altar is concreted. The construction of this solid construction took place in the years 1970–1971 and thus falls into the construction phase of the satellite town , which is characterized by up to 18-storey high-rise buildings made of precast concrete parts.

Building description

The building complex , a flat-roofed reinforced concrete skeleton construction in exposed concrete , looks very closed from the outside. The building is divided into two building wings arranged at right angles to each other . It is little reminiscent of a traditional church building , but rather reflects an architectural concept in the spirit of brutalism. Inside there are three floors . The spatial program is varied: the rear wing of the building serves as a rectory and houses rooms for the parish nurses. It also contains apartments for the pastor and the caretaker . In the front part of the building, which is reminiscent of an air raid shelter with the bell tower , there is a library , a community hall and a youth room in addition to the actual church space . Several shed roofs rise above its flat roof , which indirectly illuminate the church and the community hall. Otherwise there are only a few vertical window slots in the walls. In front of the glazed ground floor where the day care center is located, a flight of stairs leads to the first floor, where the entrances to the church and community hall are. The facade , which was originally left in exposed concrete , has now been clad for structural reasons. The interior of the church was changed, the walls made of exposed concrete were painted gold and silver due to the changed taste of the times.

For the church, three large-format meditation pictures (oil and sand on canvas) to the Bible verses of the bells by Sister Christamaria of the Christ Brotherhood Selbitz have been designed as wall decorations .

organ

In 1974 the Roman Ilisch company built a new organ with 19 registers divided into two manuals and a pedal . Furthermore, the community center has had a positive from the Harald Rapp organ building workshop since 1989 .

It was restored in 2016 by Alexander Schuke Potsdam Orgelbau . The disposition of the organ can be viewed at Orgel Databank .

Bells

In the bell chamber hangs a ring made of three bronze bells, which was cast in 1982 by the bell foundry Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock .
